We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Vijay Shantaraj Manohar who was our beloved husband, Dad, and Grandpa. He passed away peacefully at home in Flower Mound at the age of 89 on December 19, 2023. He was born on October 25, 1934 in Gadag-Betageri, India to the late Reverend Shantaraj and Premabai Manohar.  He was the eldest son in his family of 5 boys and 5 girls. In March 1973, he made the courageous decision to bring his wife and 3 young daughters to the United States in search of a better life (he later had a son born in the US).  He settled in Weatherford, Texas working as an X-ray Technician at a local hospital and had a long career working at various hospitals in the DFW area and always kept up with the latest technology in his field such as nuclear medicine. Vijay was an extremely hard worker sometimes working two jobs and weekends providing for his family until retiring at the age of 82. He enjoyed watching old classic movies, boxing, tennis, and his beloved Cowboys team and watched the news and read the newspaper on a daily basis to stay up to date on current events. Vijay loved to sing and had a natural ability to play musical instruments such as the piano and violin.  He loved driving and taking his family on vacations and road trips to see historical landmarks, national parks, and amusement parks. He was very athletic playing cricket and badminton in his younger years in India and the US and playing in a softball league with his coworkers here in Texas. He was very handy and handled everything from plumbing repairs to interior/exterior painting to maintaining the yard at his home. He loved telling detailed stories and his mind was sharp until the end with an astounding memory of events, places and names from his earliest years.   He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family deeply and leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Leela, 4 children (Anna Smith, Shama Brown, Vinay Torrey and Steven Manohar), 3 son-in-laws (Jeffrey Smith, Craig Brown and Fred Torrey), and 6 grandchildren (Anthony, Taylor, and Christian Smith and Trey, Kalen and Cameron Brown), 2 brothers Divesh Manohar and wife Vanamala and Vedaraj Manohar and wife Paula, 4 sisters Mukta Kumar, Mamata Pattar, Shoba Bass (and husband David) and Prabha Jamkhandi. He also leaves behind numerous sister-in-laws and brother-in-laws on the Kumar side of the family, cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews on the Manohar and Kumar sides of the family whom he loved and adored. He was preceded in death by his parents, older sister Sampakka Jogal and younger brothers, Pramod and Kantaraj Manohar and grandson, Jaden Brown.
