Verland Leroy Miller was born on June 17, 1936, in Elmo, Kansas.  He went home to meet his Jesus in the early morning hours of April 4, 2024, in Lewisville, Tx.  Verland was preceded in death by his parents, Emma and Leroy Miller, his favorite brother, Larry, and his bride of 60 years, Jane.

Verland grew up in Abilene, Kansas and graduated as a proud Abilene High Cowboy.  He played many sports in high school including tennis and basketball.  He became known as "Mighty Mouse!"   He was quick to share with others how he won a state championship in tennis.  After graduation, Verland joined the US Navy.  He served for 5 years including serving in the Korean War.   He married the love of his life, Jane, on August 18th, 1961.  Verland attended Washburn University on the GI bill and graduated with a BBA in 1964.  He started his business career with Prudential, but soon took a position with the Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES).  Verland became the Director of AAFES Pacific, and AAFES Europe over his 25-year career.   He loved traveling the world with AAFES, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Germany, Italy, and Turkey.   He immensely enjoyed his tours in Hawaii and Germany.  Verland was highly respected and loved by those he worked with.

Verland retired in 1992 in DeSoto, TX.  He spent his time supporting local high school sports, tending to his amazing garden and yard, and spending time with his family.  Verland was a very kindhearted, funny, loyal, and patient man.   He loved the Lord and was quick to tell others how blessed he was and what a good life he had led.  He was happiest when his family was all together.  Verland was an avid sports fan who cheered on the Kansas Jayhawks, Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and his favorite, Dallas Mavericks.  Taking his grandsons to Mavs Camp each summer was something that brought him great joy.

Verland was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  He is survived by his children - Lori Thompson of New Braunfels, TX; Curtis Miller and his wife Michelle of Lewisville, TX; and his 4 grandchildren, Taylor and Hunter Thompson, and Emma and Blaine Miller.  His eyes lit up as he met his 2 great granddaughters, Rylie and Macie Thompson.

There will be a Military Honor Ceremony for Verland and Jane at the DFW National Cemetery, on Friday, April 26th at 10:00am.
