Vanita Maxwell Thomas
Born September 10, 1940

Vanita died peacefully at home in Flower Mound, TX October 5, 2024, after a long illness.

Vanita grew up in Bellevue, TX and married her high school sweetheart, Melvin Thomas in 1956. The family moved to Lewisville, TX in 1960 with 2 small children, Lanita and Benny. In 1978 they decided to "move to the country" and became Flower Mound residents.

Vanita retired from Lewisville Independent School District where she worked in the payroll department. She was an excellent cook, renowned for her Coconut Meringue Pie. Her other loves were her rose garden, extensive Christmas village, and antiques, especially glassware. Vanita loved family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She remained devoted to her husband Melvin for 68 years until her passing.

She is survived by her husband Melvin, daughter Lanita Gafford, son Benny Thomas, grandsons Jay Thompson, Riley Thomas, Brandon Thomas, and Travis Thomas, as well as 7 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Mulkey Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville, TX October 8 from 6-8. Services will be held at the same location October 9 at 10 am, followed by interment and graveside service at Vashti cemetery in Vashti TX at 1 pm.
