Sue Herrera of Flower Mound, Texas went to be with the Lord on January 14, 2024.  Born January 20, 1941, in Espanola, New Mexico to Jose and Mauricia Garcia.  She was one of twelve children. She graduated high school and fell in love with a young handsome US Navy sailor, John Herrera. They enjoyed a wonderful military life starting with the US Navy and then the US Army. Living in California, Massachusetts,Virginia, Panama, New Mexico, Texas, Iran, Illinois. In California, she went to college. When John was sent to Vietnam, family stayed in New Mexico, near her mother, until family was reunited. Texas was home for about nine years, during which Sue worked as a Telephone Operator. Sue's next destination was Iran with the Iran Hostage crisis of 1979, where John, her husband was involved in a fantastic return. Upon returning to Texas, she had a short stint in Illinois before returning to Texas for good. Her job highlights were managing a record store, being a telephone operator and corporate employee till her early retirement with GTE/Verizon. She loved catching a Texas Rangers baseball game, going to ballet, plays and music concerts of all genres. Sue enjoyed visiting/camping National Parks too. Sue never lost her joy to travel, which she did extensively with her loving husband until his passing on 11/6/11. After losing the love of her life, she spent the next decade enjoying time with her children, beloved granddaughters, and church friends as well as giving of her time with various volunteering organizations.  Her final three years she resided at The Inspire Living (now the Pearl) Nursing Home. She was always a joy at the nursing home, and they lovingly called her Momma Sue.

Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Mauricia Garcia, her loving husband John Herrera, her son John Jr., and her sisters Terry and Sister Teresita. She is survived by her brothers, John (Mildred) Garcia, Paul (Cordelia) Garcia, Joe Garcia, Henry (Sara) Garcia and Michael (Lucille) Garcia, her sisters Rosie Owen and Bernadette See. She is also survived by two daughters Julie Cooper and Lynne Ward (Steve), granddaughters; Stephanie Cooper, Rebecca Cooper and Erika Cooper, and great grandson Baker Cooper, all of Lewisville, Texas.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at the Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home, 740 South Edmonds Lane in Lewisville, TX, (972) 436-4581, from 6 pm to 8 pm. Mass will be celebrated at Saint Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 5201 Cross Timbers Road in Flower Mound, Texas, at 11:00 am on Friday, January 26, followed by a reception.  A graveside service will be held at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at a later date.
