Steven "Steve" Layne Vaughn was born on September 20, 1951 in Midland, Texas to Charles and Ima Lota Vaughn. He went to be with the Lord on January 19, 2025, surrounded by his wife and children.

Steve grew up in Lubbock with his brothers, Ronnie, Jimmy, Gary, and Jeff. He attended Lubbock High School and Texas Tech University and later moved to Lewisville in 1980 where he met his wife, Karen. The two were married on November 1, 1990.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; his children – Courtney and Kelsey Vaughn, Stevey and Ben Salter, Sayde Peterson; and his grandchildren – Carrie, Linnie, and Bennett Ethridge.

Steve had a vibrant spirit, touching many lives and creating countless cherished memories. His love of family was at the heart of everything he did. During the summer you could find him outside smoking a brisket while listening to ZZ Top, Fleetwood Mac, or Patsy Cline. He loved playing football, watching his Red Raiders, and coaching all his children's sports teams.

Steve had a genuine love for people, a gift that naturally led him to a career in sales. His warm personality and ability to connect with anyone he met were the hallmarks of his professional career. He was committed to building meaningful relationships and earning the trust and respect of all who crossed his path.

He was a husband, a dad, a brother, a father-in-law, a grandpa, a family member who was loved and who loved deeply. He lived a life deeply devoted to his family, leaving behind a legacy of unconditional love. Those who knew him lost a bright light, but heaven has gained an incredible angel. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Lakeland Baptist Church, 397 S. Stemmons Fwy., Lewisville, TX at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.
