Stephanie "Nini" Correll née Ronay passed away on June 10, 2024. Nini was born in Paris, France, on September 3, 1936. Nini's mother passed away when Nini was only three years old. In 1942, Nini, along with her father, brother, and sister, came to the United States to escape deportation to a Nazi concentration camp where many members of her family perished. They traveled on a cattle boat across the Atlantic, and were interned in Cuba before they later made it to New York City and, finally, Dallas. Nini and her sister stayed at the Ursuline Convent during their first days in Dallas, and they saw their father and brother only on weekends. Nini's father died when she was just sixteen, yet she pushed ahead and earned her high school diploma at Highland Park High School while living with her older brother and sister and, later, a family friend.

Nini attended the University of Texas and, while there, she met and married the man who would become her husband of 66 years, Lt. Charles Correll, on a blind date in 1957. Nini subsequently completed her bachelor's degree in education at Arizona State University.  As a military wife, Nini enthusiastically supported Charlie's 26-year military career by mentoring other spouses and couples, taking leadership roles in unit and spouse's organizations, fundraising for struggling airmen, moving to eight different locations, and performing the role of a single parent while Charlie served in Vietnam raising their two children, Mark, and Katherine.  After moving to Lewisville in 1986, she began an exciting new career as a travel agent while also taking every opportunity to travel the world with Charlie.

Nini lived her life as a servant to her community.  In 1968, Nini began a lifelong focus on helping children and adults with learning disabilities and other handicaps. She was particularly proud of her time with the Children Have a Potential program working with children with autism long before such a diagnosis was recognized, understood, and supported as it is in our society today. She was a longtime volunteer with The Friends of the Flower Mound Library and at Texas Presbyterian Hospital-Flower Mound. An active member of the Flower Mound Rotary, she worked tirelessly to provide scholarships and community grants, and she was honored with the Paul Harris Award. She served for many years with LISD Communities in schools as a student mentor at elementary schools. An avid artist, Nini won multiple awards for her painting, cross stitching, and other creative skills.

Nini's faith was dear to her, and she was as an active member of Trietsch Memorial United Methodist Church.  She now joins her husband Charlie, who left us for heaven only 3 months ago. Nini was predeceased by her sister Jacqueline and is survived by her brother Andre (Vera), son Mark (Brandy), daughter Katherine Keane (Jim), four grandchildren Michael Correll (Tori), Jason Correll (Sam), Brendan Keane (Daisy), and Kendall Keane, five great-grandchildren (Graham, Hudson, Whitman, Asher, and Alice) and many nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be at 2pm June 18 at Trietsch Memorial UMC. Private interment will be with her husband at the Dallas National Cemetery at a later date.
