Ruth "Ruthie" Ellen Reichling Holzschuh, age 91, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2023.  She was born on May 17, 1932, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Vernon Emmons Reichling and Ruth Emma "Emily" (Thomsen) Reichling.  She married Donald Lyle Holzschuh on June 5, 1957, and they enjoyed 58 beautiful years together.

Ruthie told many stories of growing up in Iowa.  She often mentioned walking home from school at midday and how her mother would always have a hot lunch ready.  She talked about taking shortcuts through the corn fields, making crocks of sauerkraut in the basement, and the bitter cold Iowa winters.  As a teen, she loved to babysit and go on shopping trips to Chicago with her sister-in-law.

Don and Ruth met in 1952 while Don was working at Collins Radio Co. in Cedar Rapids.  The couple married after a five-year courtship.  Their first son, Doug was born in 1958, and a second son, David, arrived in 1960.  In 1961, Collins Radio transferred operations to Texas and the family relocated to Richardson.  A third son, Dan, was born in Dallas in 1964.

Ruth was an avid volunteer at Scottish Rite Hospital for Children when the boys were school-aged.  She was also a founding member of the Richardson Women's Club and actively participated in different groups within the club.  Ruth was very focused on health and fitness, swimming and walking every day.   She enjoyed time with her friends and neighbors who would stop by for a glass of wine or a chat on her front bench. People were drawn to her because her big blue eyes saw the good in every situation.  She was a great encouragement to her friends and always wanted the best for everyone.  She was grateful for a good life, but most of all, she loved her family and was a wonderful Granna/Nana to three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved husband Donald "Don" Lyle Holzschuh, her son Douglas Richard Holzschuh, her brother John Vernon Reichling, her parents Vernon and Ruth Emma Reichling and her niece Jacqueline Reichling.  She is survived by her sons David Donald Holzschuh, and Daniel John Holzschuh and his wife, Keri Renee' (Forshaw) Holzschuh.  Her grandchildren Kristin Marie Holzschuh, Andrew Quinton Holzschuh and his wife, Kristen Callie (Smith) Holzschuh, and Emily Kate (Holzschuh) Edens and her husband, Bryan Wayne Edens.  Her great-grandchildren Bridgette Christine Bruce, Ava Lily Bernard, Rose Michelle Holzschuh and Nolan Wayne Edens.  Her sweet sister-in-law Jo Reichling and nephew, John Reichling Jr, and family.   And the many friends and neighbors who loved her dearly and will miss her greatly
