Ronnie Franklin Wood
March 17, 1947 – November 4, 2026
Ronnie Franklin Wood of The Colony, Texas, passed away on November 4, 2026. He was born on March 17, 1947, in San Angelo, Texas, to Willie and Angeline Wood, and graduated from San Angelo Central High School in 1965.
Ronnie began his working life as a mechanic at a local car dealership, then worked for San Angelo Diecasting and Mitsubishi Aircraft at Mathis Field. On December 31, 1970, he married Jan Talafuse at the First Methodist Church Chapel in San Angelo. They welcomed daughter Lisa in 1972 and son Chris in 1975.
In 1978, the family moved to Irving, Texas, and in 1980 they settled in The Colony. That same year, 1978, Ronnie began working at Associated Air Center at Love Field, where he served as an aircraft mechanic for 31 years until his retirement in 2009. Never one to sit still, he went on to work part-time as maintenance facility supervisor at Carrollton Office Tower from 2011 to 2021. He also cared for the facilities at Lakeway Church from 2001 to 2025, the church family he and Jan joined in 1989 and called home ever since.
Ronnie was a devoted Christian who loved to share his faith in Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior, with everyone he met. He enjoyed golf, fishing, photography, and traveling, with Port Aransas and the mountains of Colorado among his favorite places. He was a member of the North Texas Bass Assassins for ten years and remains an honorary member today. Above all, he was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Ronnie is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jan; his daughter, Lisa, and her husband, Mike Burkham, of The Colony, Texas; and his son, Chris Wood, and his wife, Latrisha, of Sanger, Texas. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Joshua and his wife, Hannah; Jacob and his wife, Laney; Ashlynn and her husband, Gabe; and Emma. He leaves behind eight much-beloved great-grandchildren: Corey, Chloe, Caitlyn, Claire, Ella, James, William, and Malachi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Angeline Wood, and his brother, Dannie Wood.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2026, at Lakeway Church, 4000 N. Colony Blvd., The Colony, Texas. Ronnie was never one to dress fancy and loved his blue jeans, so the family invites everyone to wear jeans to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ronnie’s honor to the Dementia Society at dementiasociety.org/donate.
