Robert Scott Sparkman (Robin, Bob, Sparky)

Robert Scott Sparkman, 82, passed away at his home in Lewisville, Texas, August 10, 2026, following a year long struggle with lung cancer.

A husband for 61 years, a father of four, a song leader, a mentor, and a gentleman, Robin taught his family and others about respect for others, kindness and the strength of humility.

He was born in San Antonio, Texas, May 13, 1944, to William Kennedy Ewing, Jr, and Mary Addison Israel. As a young teen, he moved to New Orleans with his mother and step father, Alan Temple Sparkman, who later adopted Robin as his own. He eventually met and married Judith Brennan, who lived in the neighborhood and shared his love of music.

Bob spent a year at Louisiana State University before attending and graduating from Drake College in Florida in 1968. He worked as a salesman for Budweiser and then became a district executive for the Boy Scouts of America, earning a best district award in Louisiana and making an impact by sharing his music during camp outs, Jamborees and conventions.

The Boy Scouts brought him to Galveston, Texas, where he eventually found a new career to keep his family grounded. As purchasing agent for the cities of Galveston, Lewisville, and The Colony, he was also active in purchasing associations, including two terms as president of the Public Purchasing Association of North Central Texas.

He had taught himself ukulele as a teenager, playing along with a collection of records, and music was interwoven with everything he did, from family gatherings to leading folk groups in church to open mic events. In his later years, he found an outlet for his music in local ukulele clubs, and he led the Big Ukulele Group (the BUGs) for several years, sharing his mastery of different rhythms with new friends.

In addition to music, he loved books, television, movies and sports. He was a lifelong LSU fan, filling his fall Saturdays with college games, and he enjoyed playing and watching golf. He shared his love of Disney movies with his younger grandchildren, who would sit with him and watch his DVDs on repeat.

He is survived by his wife Judith Brennan Sparkman, son Robert (Robbie) Sparkman, Jr., and wife Anabella Sparkman Royo, three daughters and sons-in-law - Ann and Daniel Nations, Shari and Scott Herrick, and Lori and Mark Rackers - plus seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren and his brother Alan J. Sparkman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-parents, two step brothers, his brother Billy, and his great grandson Mateo.
