Robert "Pete" Sherrill Hammer, 86, passed away peacefully and joined his wife Shirley on April 17, 2025.

Pete was born on August 12, 1938 in Broken Bow, OK to George W. Hammer and Stella Mae Gasaway Hammer. They moved to Muenster, TX shortly after where he grew up with his many siblings playing outside and usually stirring up trouble with his brothers. You don't meet too many people in the Muenster area who don't know who the Hammers are.

In 1957, he joined the Army and served in the Signal Corps. He wore his cap proudly and loved it when people asked him about being a veteran. He moved to Vernon, TX after he left the service and that is where he met Shirley, his beautiful wife of over 60 years. Of course he noticed her in a car and told his brother he needed to know who she was. They married on March 8, 1962 and went on to welcome three children: Susan Annette (Briggs), Sharon Elaine (Record), and Robert Randall. Family was everything to them, and they eventually settled in Lewisville, TX. They led a stable life and remained in the same home until their passing.

Pete had a career at Texas Instruments (Raytheon and L3) in the maintenance department until he retired. He loved what he did and his talent was unmatched. Some of his other loves included fixing things, fishing, telling stories, and driving around. He spent many years going to his lake house at Cedar Creek Lake and hosting guys fishing trips. Oh the stories that could be told from those trips!

Dad or Grandaddy as we all called him was never seen without a can of peanuts, a set of toothpicks, or his cup. He loved shelling the pecans from his pecan tree, sitting at his work bench in the garage tinkering with something, or riding his bike down to his brother's house. He also got to spend time with his five grandkids and five great-grandkids. There is not enough room or time to share all of the wonderful memories or stories about Pete Hammer. If you were fortunate enough to know him, you probably have plenty to reminisce about. He was the backbone of the family, and he will be greatly missed. At the same time we are thankful that he is now reunited with his wife Shirley. They are rejoicing together.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, George and Stella Hammer; brothers George W. Hammer, Jr. and sister-in-law Mary Hammer, James Hammer, Doyle Hammer (infant), and Nolan Hammer; sisters Bonnie Robison and brother-in-law Doug Robison, Nancy Berry and brother-in-law Wayne Berry; and loving wife Shirley Burrow Hammer. He is survived by his children Susan Hammer Briggs (Kenny), Sharon Elaine Record (David), and Robert Randall (Randy) Hammer. His five grandkids are Megan Briggs Allard (Gregg), Michaela Briggs Harvot (Danny), Joshua Record (Lindsey), Caleb Record, and Seth Record. He also has five great-grandchildren: Harper Allard, Reese Harvot, Cole Harvot, Mitchell Record, and Hayes Allard. He is also survived by one brother, Thomas (Butch) Hammer (Ann) and one sister, Linda (Hammer) Bryant (David) and many other nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

We are thankful for the legacy that Pete Hammer instilled in his family.

Interment will be at DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy. Dallas, TX. Date and time will be announced by the family once arrangements are planned.
