After enjoying a beautiful Thanksgiving surrounded by his family, Richard Alfred Shermer passed away on the morning of November 24, 2023. Richard had been a member of the Highland Village community for 33 years. Richard, known to his many friends as Dick, was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on May 14, 1946. Dick graduated from Warren Harding High School in 1964 and received his bachelor's degree in Marketing from the University of Bridgeport in 1969.

Dick answered his country's call and enlisted in the US Army. He served as an editorial assistant and public relations specialist in Fort Benning, Georgia, as well as in Ulm, Germany. After his service, Dick attained his Master's in Business and Strategy at Georgia State University.

On November 20, 1976, Dick made the best decision of his life when he was joined in matrimony to the beautiful Ann Marie Rubbone, of Flushing, Queens, New York. In 1980, Dick and Ann moved to Texas to raise their three children, Suzanne, William, and Richard.

A man of many talents, Dick served as a Vice President and Practice Leader with A.T. Kearney Management Consulting. Dick also was a consulting partner with Deloitte and Touche before becoming the founder and president at R. Shermer Company in 2001. The State, Federal, and European regulatory authorities had appointed Dick both trustee and monitor roles, in these capacities he played a key part in some of the largest merger and forced divestment transactions in recent history.

But Dick wasn't all business; he was also a lifelong sports fan. He was devoted to his Texas teams - the Mavericks, the Stars, and the Cowboys, who gave him great joy with their win on Thanksgiving Day. A highlight for Dick this year was his beloved Texas Rangers winning the World Series.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Alfred W. and Emily Thumm Shermer, and his brother, William F. Shermer.

He is survived by his wife Ann, his daughter Suzanne (Calvin Dotson) of Argyle, Texas, his sons William (Eleanor Columbus) and Richard II, both of Los Angeles, California. He is also survived by his three grandchildren who were the light of his life, Deacon and Dylan Dotson, and Dorothy Shermer. He also leaves behind many beloved brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. Dick will be loved and missed by all.

A memorial service will be held on December 15, 2023. The service will be held at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church at 11:00 a. m.
