Richard Lee Harned
November 3, 1952 – June 23, 2026

Richard Lee Harned, 73, was, the love of his wife Mary's life. Born November 3rd, 1952, Richard grew up always on the move. His father, Richard Lee Harned Sr., worked for Sinclair Oil, and the family traveled frequently. Wherever they landed, Richard made friends, and he leaves behind a wealth of memories, friends, and family who will carry him forward.

Richard spent his career in accounting and management across a wide variety of roles, finding his longest and final home as a controller at Lantana Water District, where he served for 20 years. He brought the same steadiness and integrity to his work that he brought to everything in his life.

His faith was a cornerstone of who he was. Raised in the Baptist tradition, Richard found his church home at RockPointe Church, where he was a beloved member of the community.

Richard had a gift for the simple pleasures. He was rarely without a stack of books nearby: always reading, always curious. He loved baseball, going to the movies, and discovering a great restaurant. But his greatest joy was gathering his entire family around a table. Richard loved eating at our favorite restaurants; he always knew the best "hole in the wall" places but would always want to return the same three or four places he knew best. Richard would order the same thing every time, not because the menu was limited, but because what he loved most was never on it. What he treasured was the people sitting across from him.

Richard and Mary's love story began in August 1969 on a choir tour with Sharpstown Baptist Church. Mary and the girls in her room divided up the cute guys on the senior bus and, of course, Mary picked Rich. They started dating, and on August 25th, 1973, they were married. They shared 52 years, 5 months, and 6 days together.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Harned; his brothers and sisters Kris Larkin, Kynn Harned, Kevin Harned, and Kelli Shada; his son Jason Harned and wife Andrea and their children Jonah, Clare, and Matthias; his daughter Melissa Flores and husband Gary and their children Nicholas and Jillian; and his son Patrick Harned and wife Shellie Kreter and their daughter Charlotte.

One of the greatest joys of his life were his grandchildren: Jonah, Nicholas, Jillian, Clare, Matthias, and Charlotte. He leaves them all, and everyone who knew him, with a lifetime of warmth to hold onto.

He is now in heaven, free of pain and these earthly constraints, dancing with the angels.

A Celebration of Life for Richard Lee Harned will be held on Friday, July 10th at 10:30 AM at RockPointe Church. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM. All who knew and loved Richard are welcome to come and celebrate the man he was.
