Richard George Dettling was a loving and gracious man who always had kind words and a smile for all he met.  He was a beloved husband, father, uncle, and grandfather.

The son of Andrew Dettling and Marjorie Sageman, Richard was born and raised in Detroit.  After graduating from Pershing High School, he served in the Army as a tank driver in Germany from November 1953 to August 1955.  He returned to Detroit and married Suzanne Angove on May 4, 1957.  They welcomed their daughter Claudia in November 1962.

Richard and Sue lived in Detroit before moving to Farmington Hills, Michigan.  He worked for Chevrolet and General Motors in the Truck and Bus division as a draftsman.  His colleagues enjoyed working with him and greatly respected his leadership and work ethic.  After retirement from General Motors, Richard and Sue moved to Flower Mound, Texas in 1995, to be near their daughter.

Richard was very patriotic and was quick to honor those who had served or were currently serving.  He loved his work, but he also loved his hobbies which included playing hockey and softball, and building model cars, tanks and airplanes.  Richard loved sports, especially hockey and baseball, and of course American cars!  Finally, Richard loved his church, Grace Community Assembly of God, and the church family there, especially the Prime-timers and Band of Brothers.

Richard is survived by his wife of 66 years, his daughter, Claudia Brewer, his grand-daughter, Suzanne Brewer, his sister, Marion Auld (John Auld), and many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, Chuck.

Services will be held on Tuesday, November 21st, at Grace Community Assembly of God in Flower Mound, TX.  Visitation will commence at 10:00, with the memorial service immediately following at 11:00.

He will be buried at DFW National Cemetery on November 28th at 1:15pm.
