Michael Paul Alaga passed away peacefully with family along his side on July 4, 2023.  He was 81 years of age.

Michael was born in Lewisville, TX on November 27, 1941, to Nicholas and Julie Alaga. He went to California and graduated Walnut Creek High School.  After graduation he worked for the El Cariso Hot Shots Forest Service fighting forest fires. He then enlisted in the US Army and served two years.  He was stationed in Viet Nam.  It was while in Viet Nam he was assigned to the air medic retrieving wounded soldiers on the battle field.

After the military he worked for Minton's Lumber Company in California. He moved to Lewisville in the early 70's and went to work for the Lewisville Fire Department. His career spanned 28 years and he retired as a Division Chief.  He taught many of the classes offered to firefighters.  He retired from LFD in 2002 and has kept in contact with many in the department.  One of the LFD fireboats is named after him.

As a fireman, he knew how to cook a little. He was good at Chinese Stir Fry, fried Mac & Cheese, and grilling steaks. Mike was instrumental in helping start the Emergency Department at Lewisville Hospital when it first opened.

He and LaNorma married on September 25, 1976 at the home of Robbie Eads McCall on Bennett Lane. They moved to Era on LaNorma's family farm.  There he fought grasshoppers and chiggers.  His main job on the farm was working on and tearing down old fence.

He is survived by his wife, LaNorma, daughter, Ouida JaNelle McKenzie Freeman, daughter Lara N'Cole Gibson and husband, David. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 5 great, grandchildren and one on the way.

Visitation will be held at Mulkey Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville on Sunday, July 9, from 3:00- 5:00 pm.

The funeral will be held at the Northview Baptist Church in Lewisville at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 10. The church is located at 1981 North Mill Street in Lewisville, Texas.  Burial will be in Era, Texas.

Donations may be made in Michael's honor to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
