Mary Lucille (Abston) Peninger, 90, of Cedar Park, Texas, experienced her much anticipated homegoing to her Lord & Savior on February 6, 2025. Mary was a long-time resident of North Dallas.  She was born November 5, 1934 to Michael Abston and Mamie (Crowder) Abston in Tad, West Virginia.

Mary was a coal miner's daughter, and although she lived in many different states during her lifetime, West Virginia was always home.  While growing up during the 1930's and 40's, she learned the skill of stretching a meal from her mother; the hospitality with which the meal was served was her gift. Mary delighted in preparing a spread big enough for an army, and was an excellent home cook.

After graduating high school, Mary attended Mid-South Bible Institute in Memphis, Tennessee, where she met many lifelong friends.

She stayed busy and enjoyed working.  At various times, she worked as a soda fountain waitress, as a reservation agent at Eastern Airlines, and as an office worker of several companies, finally retiring from Comdata.

While working at Eastern Airlines in Charlotte, North Carolina, she received a call from a traveler in Washington, D.C. who needed assistance with airline reservations.  The traveler was so impressed by her help that he offered to take her to dinner. She jokingly took him up on it and was surprised when he actually showed up a couple of months later. He asked her to marry him on their first date. She laughed.  Arnold Peninger and Mary Abston were married in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 29, 1967. They shared a deep love and devotion to one another for more than 48 years, and Mary faithfully cared for him through the final days of his life in 2015.

She loved her family dearly, and her home was always open to family and friends.

Above all, Mary would want everyone to know that God loves them and offers freedom and forgiveness through His own son Jesus Christ.

She is survived by three sons, Gregory Peninger (Susan), Thomas Peninger (Sandra), and Brian Peninger; 9 grandsons, Joshua Peninger, Adam Peninger, and Luke Peninger; Paul VanLinder (Lindsay), Kristopher Tomerlin Sr. (Jaylee), Matthew Peninger (Irene), and Chad Dreher; Robert Peninger and Patrick Peninger.

17 great-­grandchildren, Nathaniel, Layla, and Gabriel VanLinder; Kristopher Jr., Ava, and Kara Tomerlin; Leah Dixon (Justin), Gabriel Peninger (Mari), James, Angela, Austin, Jaxon, and Ace Peninger; Gracie, Aliyah, Xander, and Emily Dreher;

One great-great grandson Damien Peninger

Also, one brother, Vince Abston (Maxine) and many well-­loved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold F. Peninger, Jr.; her parents, Michael and Mamie Abston; two brothers, Leo Abston, John Abston, as well as her sweet sons or daughters who left this life before their birth, and a great-­grandson, John Dreher.
