Marvin Jackson passed away on December 13, 2023, in Lewisville, Texas after fighting a lengthy battle with frontal temporal dementia. He was 81.

Marvin was born on October 12, 1942, in Balko Township, Oklahoma. He was the third child of Raymond and Evelyn Jackson. Marvin grew up in Balko until high school when he and his family moved to Delta, Colorado. He loved baseball and was one of the "star" pitchers for the Delta HS Panthers.

Marvin went on to attend college at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma receiving his BA in History. Until a stroke took his ability to speak, he was still able to recite Ka-Rip, the spirit chant annoying to rivals, chanted by OBU fans during baseball and basketball games.

After graduating from OBU, Marvin moved to Fort Worth, Texas to attend Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. While attending the seminary, Marvin met Sarah Josephine Adams, who played piano at the church he attended. They were married on March 24, 1967. He graduated from the seminary with a Master of Divinity (M. Div.)

Shortly after their marriage and graduating from seminary, Marvin was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War.

After returning from the war, Marvin and Sarah Jo moved to Lewisville, Texas in 1972 where they both lived until they died. That same year, the Washington Senators moved to Arlington, Texas to become the Texas Rangers. Marvin loved baseball throughout his life and would take his wife and two children to many Texas Ranger games over the years. He was excited to finally see the Rangers win the World Series!

Marvin was a servant leader and demonstrated this in many aspects of his life. He was a member of Lakeland Baptist church in Lewisville where he was a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and sang in the choir.

In 1985 Marvin was elected to the Lewisville City Council where he served until 1991. He also served on several city committees prior to his stint on the council.

Marvin's hobbies included woodworking, fishing, and reading every Louis L'Amour book ever written.

Marvin is preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Jo, and his parents.  He is survived by his daughter, Melissa, his son, Jonathan and daughter-in-law, Jennifer, granddaughters, Madison and Caroline, and grandson Joshua. He is also survived by his brother Clifford, his sister Kay, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
