Marlene Jo Lukans Hoffman, 79, died peacefully in her home on Wednesday August 9, 2023, surrounded by family.

She was born December 8, 1943, in Cleveland, OH, to Thomas and Mary Lukans. Marlene graduated James Ford Rhodes High School in 1961 and attended Bowling Green State University before marrying her husband of 57 years, Jerry Hoffman. They originally settled in Augusta, GA before relocating to Chicago in 1968, Syracuse in 1970, Houston in 1975 and ultimately Lewisville, TX in 1987.

For many years Marlene stayed home to raise her three children, Mark, Eileen and Karen, before going on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1985. Throughout her nursing career, she held various roles in the Houston and Dallas areas where she was loved and respected by patients and co-workers alike.

Marlene lived her life generously helping others. She was always available with a bright smile, contagious laugh, kind word, or helping hand. She loved to spend time with family and had many close friendships she treasured deeply.

To say she loved nature and gardening would be an understatement. Active in the Denton County Master Gardeners Association, she earned her Master Gardener Certification and would spend countless hours planting in her yard. Perhaps the only thing that could pull her away from gardening was her grandchildren, whom she adored most of all.

Besides gardening, Marlene had many artistic talents including painting, drawing, writing, sewing and baking, and she held a deep appreciation for all types of books, theater, and music.

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents Mary and Thomas Lukans. Surviving are her husband Jerry Hoffman of Lewisville, TX; her son Mark Hoffman and his wife Margaux of Seattle, WA; her daughter Eileen Wolf and her husband Tom of Austin, TX; her daughter Karen Holloway and her husband Rus of Dallas, TX; her grandchildren Hunter Felton, Fischer Felton, Jake Holloway and Ells Holloway; her sister Roberta Dale of Raleigh, NC; her sister Ann Shelton of Geneva, NY; and her brother Tom Lukans of Jonesville, SC.

On December 9, 2023, a service will be held at 11:00AM at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church of Dallas. Reception for family and friends will immediately follow at her daughter's house in Dallas.
