M. Luke Miller, aged 88, of Flower Mound, Texas, passed away on Thursday, July 20, 2023, in Lewisville, Texas. He was born in Humphrey, New York on October 29, 1934, to Myron L and Mary Edna (Smiley) Miller. Born "Myron" Luke, he was never called by that name and always signed his name with the initial "M." Many years later, he legally changed his name to match his preferred signature.

Luke was the third of six children in his family. Born in New York, his early years were in Pennsylvania until the family moved to the Pacific Northwest as World War 2 was ending, settling in Forest Grove, Oregon. He graduated from Forest Grove High School and attended several colleges. While a student a Houghton College (New York), he met Marjorie Mae Lawrence, and they were married on December 4, 1954. He had enlisted in the U. S. Navy and was shipped out shortly after their marriage to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. One year later, Marjorie joined him in Hawaii. The Navy moved him to Chincoteague, Virginia, where their son, Craig, was born.

Moving to western Michigan (Marjorie's home) after the Navy, Luke and Marge welcomed their son, Brian. Luke completed his college education, graduating from Western Michigan University in 1961 with a B.S. in Education. He worked as an elementary school teacher for two years before moving the family to Monroe, Michigan, to work in hospital administration. He completed his M.B.A. in Hospital Administration at Xavier University (Cincinnati, Ohio) in 1967. The following year, their daughter, Ann, was born. Luke's career took them to Flint, Michigan; Auburn Hills, Michigan; Denver, Colorado; Cleveland, Ohio; then back to Denver for his last hospital position. He rose from being Personnel Director of Mercy Hospital, of Monroe, Michigan, to becoming CEO of Horizon Health System (Michigan) and Holy Cross Hospitals-West (Colorado). After retirement, he worked part-time (without pay) at their church in Parker, Colorado.

In 1999, Luke and Marge moved to Texas, where two of their children lived. They were active members of Crossroads Bible Church for over 20 years, hosting and participating in their "mini-church" home group and various ministries.

Luke was a committed believer in Jesus and served faithfully in various local churches throughout his life, including Monroe (MI) Christian and Missionary Alliance, Maranatha Baptist Church (Flint, MI), Gingellville Baptist Church (Pontiac, MI), Grace Church (Aurora, CO), Faith Baptist Church (Parker, CO), and Crossroads. He served these churches in many capacities: trustee, deacon, committee member, choir director, missions leader, and business administrator.

Luke (often accompanied by Marge) loved serving in short-term missions. They traveled to and spent extended time in many countries serving with such agencies as Youth for Christ, the Kaifa Group, and East-West Missions. Locations included France, Switzerland, Germany, Egypt, Lebanon, Cyprus, China, Israel, Kenya, and Russia (the last two were Luke going solo).

Luke lived his last few years under the impact of Alzheimer's disease, but he proved to be gracious and appreciative to all who came around, even if he didn't remember them!

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Marjorie; his parents, Myron and Mary; his sisters, Nina Hermann and Mary K. Geiger; his brother, Lloyd; and his grandson, Connor. He leaves behind his two sons Craig (Kathy), Brian (Kimberly); his favorite daughter, Ann; his brother Glenn (Norma), his sister, Myrna, his seven grandchildren—Scott (Katie) Miller, Rebekah (Robert) Macleod, Sarah (Mark) Hershey, Christine (David) Hardt, Nathan (Melanie) Miller, Chandler Baird, Cali (Andy) Laborde, and 12 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will take place on Friday, August 11, at 3:00 pm at Crossroads Bible Church in Double Oak, Texas. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be sent to Crossroads Bible Church, Double Oak, Texas for the short-term missions program.
