The life of Linda Carlene Rinehart Steele came to an end on Friday, October 6, 2023, in Lewisville, Texas. Linda was 83 years old.

She was born on Friday, June 21,1940 in the North Texas farming community of Howard, Texas.  She was the second of four children between Carvel and Erma Rinehart.  After losing her dad when she was nine, her mother married again, to R.D. Walters, a union that brought the addition of two more wonderful brothers in Mark and Joel Walters.

Linda graduated in the Avalon High School Class of 1958.  She was a star on and off the basketball court.  She was a perennial all-tournament player and once scored 42 points in a single game.  Linda never let her family forget that she was also Valedictorian of her class (of SEVEN people!).  Shortly after high school graduation, she married WD Steele Jr. on July 11, 1958.  They were married for 65 years, having three children along the way—Lisa in 1959, Ricky in 1962, and Randy in 1963. Linda and WD also shared 6 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Linda was a stay-at-home mom for many years then followed her children to school by working for Lewisville Independent School District.  From there she moved to a career with the City of Lewisville, serving almost 30 years between the Lewisville Police Department and the Lewisville Municipal Court.

As a young girl, Linda learned to play the piano.  For the rest of her life, she could rarely walk past a piano without sitting down to play something, at times to the dismay of her children, such as the time she did it in in the food court at Valley View Mall in Dallas during Christmas season.  She enjoyed gospel music, playing bingo and completing word searches. She dearly loved visiting with her family and friends.  As she grew older, the real loves of her life were her grandchildren and she delighted in all of them.

Linda battled and beat cancer three different times, paying a tremendous physical cost in the process. But her spirit remained strong. When she faced cancer for the fourth time, it seems that God decided this battle would be won in heaven. Through it all, Linda Steele defined kindness and grace.

Linda is survived by her husband WD Steele Jr., daughter Lisa and her life partner Bernard Guinard, son Ricky and wife Judy, son Randy and wife Jennifer, grandchildren Gary Hatfield, Susan Uptmor, Dusty and wife Marcia Greenway, Banner Steele, Peyton Steele, great grandchildren Zoey Chow, Parker Lamb, Alyvia Greenway, Liam Greenway, along with her sister Cheryl Melville and brother Mark Walters. Linda was preceded in death by her granddaughter Kayla Greenway, her parents, brothers William Rinehart and Joel Walters, and sister Joy Farmer.

A person of unwavering faith in Christ and in the good of all people, Linda Steele is now forever healed and has earned her heavenly wings. She will be forever missed by all who knew and loved her.

A service to celebrate Linda's life will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville.
