Larry Gene Powers, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend to many passed away peacefully on March 25, 2024, after complications from cardiac arrest. At 81 years old, he leaves behind a legacy of love and faith that will always be cherished by those who knew him.

Larry was born on Easter Sunday, April 5,1942 in Chicago, Illinois. He was the first child to Anna Sue and Gene Reed Powers and had a younger sister, Susan, a real admirer of her older brother. He grew up in and around Chicago before moving to Brentwood, Missouri, where he graduated high school in 1960. While in high school, he was an avid athlete playing basketball and running track and cross country, where he broke some of the school track records. He earned a running scholarship to DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. At DePauw he was a member of the Lambda Chi Fraternity. He also served in the Army Reserves.

Upon earning his college degree, he worked at Sears where he started in management training. He then worked for American Airlines at O'Hare airport in Human Resources, where he was relocated to New York City. After a few years in New York City, he met the love of his life, Grace Helen Kelley. They married August 29th,1970, and had three children: Douglas, Charles, and Elizabeth. He was a dedicated and supportive husband and father. In 1980 Larry's job transferred the family to Dallas, Texas; he and Grace built a home in Lewisville where they have since remained. In the early 1980s he started his own company, The Relocation Center, in Las Colinas which was successful for over ten years. Throughout his business career he held various leadership roles, such as President of ERC (Employment Relocation Council). He later retired after working for Prison Fellowship his last few years and helped Grace take care of their twin grandsons, Ethan, and Spencer, during the day.

Larry had the heart of a servant and sought to share Christ's love with others. He was involved at First Presbyterian Church in Lewisville for close to thirty years where he had various leadership positions. He and Grace were members of First United Methodist Church in Lewisville the last several years. He was an active participant and leader with Walk to Emmaus and Kairos, a prison ministry, for many years.  He was a wonderful man known for the kindness and friendliness he showed others as well as his sense of humor. Throughout his life, he remained a big sports fan- especially for the Texas Rangers, Dallas Stars and Mavericks.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Anna Sue Powers, and his first son, Douglas Powers. He is survived by his wife, Grace of Lewisville; son Charles of Denton; daughter Elizabeth Wade and husband, Richard, of Highland Village along with their sons, Spencer, and Ethan; and his sister Sue Myers and her husband, Joel, of Germantown, Tennessee, plus, several in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.

His Celebration of Life will be Saturday, April 13th at 2 pm with visitation at 1 pm at First United Methodist Church in Lewisville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church of Lewisville.
