Joseph "Joe" Steger, age 86, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. Joe was born in Texarkana, Texas, on December 7, 1937, to Maxwell Steger and Corrie Bryan Steger. After graduating from Lubbock High School in 1955, Joe worked as a draftsman and facilities manager, and retired from GTE. Joe was a sweet and outgoing man who was active in the community. He volunteered countless hours with Texas Baptist Men and as an AARP tax preparer, and received many commendations for his service, including the Spirit of Lewisville Award.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Max Steger and John Steger; sister-in-law, Elodie (Gonzalez) Steger; 2 brothers-in-law, James Richard "Jim" Mauldin and Terry Mauldin; sister-in-law, Linda Mauldin; and grandson, Malcolm Fernandez. Joe is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jana; 2 sisters-in-law, Juanita Steger and Dianne Jefcoat (Bob); 3 children, Jaquetta Garland (Robert); Frank (Benita); and Jini (Bill McMahon); 8 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held for Joe at 11:00am on Friday, January 19, 2024, at First Baptist Lewisville, with Dr. Stephen Hatfield officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00am until 10:45am, prior to the service.
