John Curtis Dillard II passed away in The Colony, Wednesday, September 20, 2023. He was born on August 30, 1948, to John and Alice Dean Dillard. John lived a life of service to his God, country, and family.

Growing up in Bessemer, Alabama, he went to McAdory High School where he played on the football team and wrestling team, lettering in both sports. During his college years, he joined the National Guard and spent most of that career in the 49th Armor Division of the Texas Army National Guard. He later retired as a Lt. Colonel in the Army Reserve.

John was a graduate of Amber University (formerly Abilene Christian/Dallas) and the United States Army Command and General Staff College. His business career spanned over 40 years in commercial building products. During that time, he received many professional awards including the Presidents Club, Sales Administrator award and various other recognitions. He retired in 2016 from Siplast, Inc.

He was City Councilman, Place 5, in The Colony from 1992 -2002 and served two terms as Mayor from 2003 -2009.  He was a founding member of The Colony Economic Development Corporation, Windhaven Peninsula Development Committee, HWY 121 Task Force, former member of Denton County Building and Maintenance Committee, former Denton County Transportation Authority Board, and numerous other city boards and civic organizations.

He was a volunteer with Denton County Republican Party since 1986. He served in many capacities from event volunteer, Senate District Committees, State Delegate for over 30 years and as County Chair. He was frequently an Election Judge or Clerk and enjoyed meeting the community at the Polls. He was a founding member of Denton County Conservative Coalition, serving on the Vetting Committee and wherever he was needed. He was a long-time member of Legacy Republican Club. In 2016, he had the honor of being elected the Presidential Elector for Congressional District 26.

John was an Eagle Scout, a Life-time member of the National Rifle Association, Texas Rifle Association, and a former 4H club shooting sports instructor.

John and family served in several churches over the years as board members, music ministry, and youth group volunteers. He had a firm faith in Jesus and the promise of eternal life with Him.

"Therefore, we do not grieve as those who have no hope" (1st Thessalonians 4:13), but we know this separation is temporary, he is in our future, and we wait for a glorious reunion with him.  As an old hymn says, "When we all get to Heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be. When we all see Jesus, we will sing and shout the victory."

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Nancy, daughters Ashley Joyce, Elizabeth Dillard, son Steven Dillard and his wife Lindsey, and the pride and joy in his life, three granddaughters, Caroline, Penelope, and Eva.

He also leaves his sister, Virginia Fountain (Claude), brother, Greg Dillard, his mother, Alice Dillard, many cousins, nieces and nephews, and many close friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, September 28, 2023, 12:00 pm, at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home Chapel, 740 S. Edmonds Ln., Lewisville, TX 75067. The burial will be at 2:00 pm at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery,  2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211.
