Jo Beth (Hyatt) Collier died on Sunday, June 7, 2026 after a long illness. She was 56. Jo Beth learned she had non-operable, stage 4 metastatic breast cancer about 2 years ago. Her stated goal was to live past the age of 90. This was a daunting challenge that she met with such confidence and courage that she convinced many loved ones she could do it. Jo Beth devoted most of her career to the social services sector in the Dallas area. She was a fierce advocate for individuals with intellectual disabilities at organizations such as Mosaic. Most recently, she helped people gain financial, nutritional, and housing stability in her role at Metrocrest Services. Jo Beth believed in speaking truth and naming the elephant in the room. She was laser-focused on being a voice for the voiceless, even when doing so was not expedient or convenient for her career. When the workday ended, her care for others did not. She was a wonderful mother, daughter, sister, "sister-cousin", and friend. She shared her home with her mother for several years and with her Aunt Janey for two years after learning that Janey suffered from dementia. Jo Beth often expressed to family members what an honor it was to care for her elders. Jo Beth was hilarious and had a wonderful sense of humor. Her stories and impersonations were legendary, and she never belittled her subject or told a story that wasn't hers to tell. She enjoyed watching (and 8rewatching) family favorite movies like Smoke Signals and streaming SNL skits. Jo Beth is survived by her son, Nicholas Collier, her mother Polly (Langley) Hyatt, her father Pete Hyatt, and her sisters Marianne Hyatt and Alice Lubbe. A celebration of her life will take place at Metrocrest Services on August 15 at 2 PM.
