Jane Goodman Luman passed away on September 27, 2026. She was a beloved daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother whose warmth and steady presence enriched the lives of those around her. Jane was born on April 18, 1936, in Torrington, Wyoming. She and her brother, Jim, grew up in Riverton, where both of their parents taught at the local junior high—so there was no getting away with much at school. Jane graduated from Riverton High School in 1954 as class salutatorian and was active in band, pep squad, and student leadership, serving as vice president of her junior class. Though naturally quiet and shy, she truly came into her own at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. Jane joined Kappa Kappa Gamma, and while living in the sorority house, she was set up on a blind date with Ed Luman, a varsity basketball player at the university. The date clearly went well. Ed left college early to enter the Army and proposed to Jane before completing his service. They married on March 2, 1957. After Ed’s Army service, they returned to Cheyenne and worked for a couple of years before going back to the University of Wyoming to finish their degrees. Jane earned a degree in sociology and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa in 1965.

In 1966, Ed and Jane moved to Houston, Texas, for new work opportunities and to start a family. Houston became one of Jane’s favorite places to live, and she loved raising their three children in the suburbs. In 1977, the family moved to Tyler, Texas, where Ed and Jane started an oil-well drilling company during the oil boom of the 1980s. Jane threw herself wholeheartedly into Tyler life, making new friends, supporting her children’s activities, and becoming involved with the Tyler Catholic School System. The friendships she formed there remained among her most treasured and enduring. When the oil business declined in the late 1980s, Ed accepted a position with the Catholic Diocese, and together they continued their active involvement in their faith and community. After Ed’s sudden death from a heart attack in 1993, Jane eventually moved to the DFW area to be closer to her children. She continued working for several years and, true to form, built another circle of friends through St. Ann Parish and her beloved weekly water-aerobics classes. Jane wanted to be close to her grandchildren and regularly attended their school and athletic events, where she could usually be counted on as their loudest—and proudest—supporter. She later moved to Lewisville and finally to Flower Mound, Texas. Wherever Jane went, friendship followed, often through church or water aerobics. She liked to stay active, engaged, and sharp, and she made every community feel a little more connected.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, W.R. and Irene Goodman; her husband, Ed Luman; and her eldest son, Mike Luman. She is survived by her brother, Jim Goodman of St. George, Utah; her daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Jim Weed of Highland Village, Texas; her son, Bob Luman of Seattle, Washington; her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Eslava of Seattle, Washington; and her four grandchildren: Dalton Weed of Charlotte, North Carolina; Sawyer Weed of Coppell, Texas; Kyle Luman of Decatur, Texas; and Violet Luman of Seattle, Washington.

Jane will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but she left them with a comforting note: she would be in heaven with Ed and her son, Mike, watching over everyone. Those who knew Jane can picture her there—surrounded by loved ones, keeping an eye on the family, and cheering them on just as proudly as ever.
