James Michael “Mike” Davis

James Michael “Mike” Davis, 85, of Lewisville, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2026, at Medical City Plano, surrounded by family and friends.Mike was born on October 23, 1940, in Vernon, Texas, to James Wyatt Davis and Mary Belle Hill Davis. He grew up in Weatherford, Texas, alongside his brothers, Mark and Richard. After graduating from Weatherford High School, Mike continued his education at Texas A&M University and later Texas Tech University, where he graduated.While attending Texas Tech, Mike met the love of his life, Judith Ann “Judy” Barnett, through the Bible Chair Campus Ministry of Broadway Church of Christ. Their shared faith became the foundation for a lifetime together. Mike and Judy were married on May 31, 1962, in Friona, Texas, beginning a marriage that would span more than 64 years.Together, Mike and Judy raised two sons, Phillip Michael Davis and David Brian Davis. Mike loved his family deeply, and one of the greatest joys of his life was being a husband, father, and grandfather. He was especially proud of his grandsons, Sloan Brian Davis and Holt Michael Davis.Mike enjoyed a long and varied professional career. He worked as a manager for General Electric for 18 years before he and Judy became co-owners of a RE/MAX real estate office, which they operated for 19 years. He later worked in property management until his retirement.Service to others was an important part of Mike’s life. He was involved in Boy Scouts as a pack leader, served as an elder in his church, and served as president of the Irving Noon Day Lions Club. His commitment to the Lions Club continued for approximately 40 years, reflecting his lifelong desire to serve his community and help others.Above all else, Mike’s faith in God and His Son, Jesus Christ, was the focal point of his life. Worship, serving others, and living out his faith gave him strength and direction throughout his life. He taught his family by both his words and his example to love God, love one another, and help their fellow man. In later years, Mike and Judy were part of The Branch Church.Mike will be remembered as funny, witty, kind, gentle, caring, and always ready for a good time. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a natural ability to make people feel included. He was someone others could trust and depend upon. When life presented something that might cause others to worry, Mike often responded with one of his familiar sayings: “I am not worried about it.”Mike had an artistic side and loved to sketch and draw. He enjoyed working puzzles, playing and watching sports, and following the Texas Rangers, Dallas Cowboys, and Texas Tech football. He enjoyed church hymns and music from the 1950s, Mexican food, steak and potatoes, and time spent at the family lake house on Cedar Creek Lake.Mike also enjoyed traveling, including memorable trips to Paris and Italy, but some of his favorite journeys were the road trips he shared with his family. Wherever he went, the people around him were what mattered most.Mike was preceded in death by his parents, James Wyatt Davis and Mary Belle Hill Davis.He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Judy Barnett Davis; his sons, Phillip Michael Davis and David Brian Davis and his wife, Nancy Ragan Davis; his grandsons, Sloan Brian Davis and Holt Michael Davis; his brothers, Mark Lee Davis and his wife, Jo-Alice Davis, and Richard Hill Davis and his wife, Sharon Davis.Mike is also remembered with love by his nieces and nephews, Amber Stamper, Sarah Molai, Kelly Davis, Jan Holmes, Jay Douglas, Jon Douglas, Chris Barnett, Kyle Barnett, Kim Martz, Rick Barnett, and David Barnett, as well as many extended family members, friends, church family, and others whose lives he touched throughout his 85 years.A visitation will be held at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 2:00 p.m.Mike leaves behind much more than the accomplishments of a long life. He leaves behind a family who knew they were loved, a legacy of faith and service, countless friendships, plenty of laughter, and an example of how to live with kindness, humor, trustworthiness, and concern for others.For those who knew Mike, perhaps one of the most fitting ways to remember him is through the simple philosophy he carried with him through life:“I am not worried about it.”
