James Mays Jr. was born April 24, 1931, to James Mays Sr. and Clara Pulley Mays in Big Creek Mississippi. He left this earth to be with the Lord on July 22, 2024, at 11:10 AM.

James was one of three children born to James Sr. and Clara and grew up in Mississippi attending school in Big Creek until moving to Texas. He moved to Lewisville in 1971.  He worked various jobs including construction before starting a long-term career at Waste Management where he retired a few times and returned to work for 37 years and finally retiring in 2018.

He met Ruby Davis Mays in 1992 and they married in June of 2004, and she would be his backbone until he went to be with the Lord. They were a formidable duo and supported and remained by each other's side until the very end. In spite of the ups and downs over the years they shared lots of laughs and love in the 32 years they shared together.

James had a love for life and often entertained his family and friends with stories of him growing up in Mississippi or his first years working and often the stories included both. He loved watching his westerns and sports and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Even at 93 James was still driving and took great pride in his independence and that he could still take care of Ruby despite his health conditions and age. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, son, brother and friend and very much loved by anyone that ever met him.

James was preceded in death by his mother and father, his brother Jack Mays and his sister Mae Francis and two of his sons, Jobel Ratcliff and Ronald James Mays.

He is survived by his wife Ruby Davis Mays, his children Robert Ray Mays, Michelle Davis, Brenda Ward (Spencer), Tracy Jones, Billy Ray Mays, and extended children Adrian Ray (Antwon), Rodney Davis and LaKeisha Davis Moultrie (Marlon). He was blessed with 14 grandkids, 16 great-grandkids and 10 great-great grandkids. He is also survived by he and Ruby's adopted daughter and constant support Becky Wall who was always there for them.

James will be remembered fondly by his family and numerous friends, and they will carry his love with them always.
