Homer David Kirby Sr., 82, of Flower Mound, Texas, passed away on December 29, 2025. He was born January 26, 1943, in Texarkana, Arkansas, to H.A. Kirby and Reba Kirby.

Homer was born and raised in Texarkana, Texas, where he graduated from Texas High in 1961. He attended East Texas State College, graduating in May 1965. In July of that same year, he married the love of his life, Marva Sue Smith, from Winnsboro, Texas. The couple moved to Dallas, where Homer worked as an accountant for Foremost Dairy until his draft into the U.S. Army in August 1966. He completed basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana, and served the remainder of his military service at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

After his military service, Homer continued his accounting career in Dallas, Texas, where he and Marva Sue had their two children. Over a 40-year career, he worked for multiple general contracting and construction companies in Dallas and Houston. His favorite position was working alongside his son, where he taught him healthcare accounting. He ultimately retired in Flower Mound, Texas.

Homer's greatest joy was his family. He cherished coaching his son's little league teams and cheering at his daughter's dance recitals and swim meets. In later years, he was a devoted grandfather, attending his grandsons' baseball and basketball games and never missing his only granddaughter's cheerleading and tumbling competitions. He and Marva Sue loved traveling the world together. A lifelong fan of the LA Dodgers and Texas Longhorns, Homer always enjoyed watching them play.

Those who knew Homer will remember his gentle demeanor, intelligence, humor, kindness, and patience, along with the frugality typical of a dedicated accountant. A proud veteran who dearly loved this country, he generously supported numerous veteran organizations, Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, and The Methodist Children's Home of Waco, Texas, for many years.

Homer is survived by his beloved wife, Marva Sue Kirby; his son, David Kirby and daughter-in-law Jeanelle Kirby of The Woodlands, Texas; his daughter, Kari Kirby Wiggins of Lantana, Texas; and five grandchildren: Jake, Kara, and Jack Kirby of The Woodlands, Texas, and Josh and Johnathan Wiggins of Lantana, Texas; and his brother Richard Kirby and brother William Kirby, his wife, Andi Kirby, and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, H.A. and Reba Kirby.

A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on January 5, 2026, at Chinn's Chapel United Methodist Church in Highland Village, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in Homer's memory.
