Hideko Maria Agunes Yokota, Age 89 passed away on September 2, 2025.  She was born on October 16, 1935, in Tokyo Japan.

Hideko was baptized into the Christian faith on August 15, 1945, the date "World-War II ended" with her mother, brother and two sisters.  She was ten years old when baptized at Sacred Heart Convent Fujisawa, Kanagawa-prefecture Japan.  Since that time her parents sent her with her brother and sisters to visit the convent, where she enjoyed the country life so much.  She was surrounded by cows, chickens, rabbits, sheep and many other animals.   They were all under the nun's guidance during their visits.

After Hideko graduated from high school, Hideko's interests were in literature and theater.  She wrote a scenario and loved to visit the theater/opera house often.  Hideko even had the opportunity to be an actress on stage a couple times.   She liked to sing as well as act, so she became a member of her church chorus.

In the year 1961, Hideko came to Brooklyn, NY to live with her sister.  In 1987 she started her work at the "Nippon Club" (Japanese Society Association) in New York City.   She was not one to be idle.  She oversaw the club's history books and was also Chief Editor of the Japanese Community Newspaper.  A very important role was entertaining and acclimating Japanese dignitaries and visitors to America and American culture.  She contributed a great deal to the growth of the Japanese society in New York.

In January of 2024, she decided to move into CHRISTUS St. Joseph Village with her young sister, Moto, because she wanted to spend the rest of her life in a similar atmosphere that reminded her of her happy times at Sacred Heart Convent.  Hideko loved to listen to the Holy Family Chapel bells chime at 12:00 noon and 3:00 pm during her daily prayers on her balcony.

Hideko is survived by her brother, Tad Yokota and his wife Betty Yokota in New York; her sister, Moto Yamamoto of Coppell; nephew, Paul Yokota and wife Denise in MA; nephew, Jeremy Yokota in NY; niece, Naomi Candullo and her husband, Vinny Candullo in CT; and her nephew, Yoshiya Furuta (son of elder, deceased sister, Misao Furuta) in GA.
