A Time to Be Born:  Herman Walker was born August 22, 1945  in the Union Community of Greene County, Alabama to Esmer and Geneva Walker.  Herman  was born the fourth of twelve children, in a family of nine boys and three girls.  He was the eldest son of the Esmer Walker clan, and was always a focused and determined young man.

A Time of Joy:  Herman confessed and accepted Jesus Christ into his life and was baptized and united with First Baptist Church, Union Alabama,  where he remained a faithful and supportive member until his demise on May 25, 2025.

A Time of Life:  Growing up, Herman first attended the neighborhood church school, Johnson Hill, in Union, AL.  When that school closed, he and others were bused to Greene County Training School in Boligee, AL.  Later, when a local Elementary and Jr. High School were built, he was transferred to Carver High School in Eutaw, AL.  Graduating with honors as a Student Council President in 1964, Herman entered Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, AL.  Pledging Omega Psi Phi fraternity, making the Dean's List, and being president of the SGA while working a part-time job at the Tuscaloosa Post Office were the norm for Herman.  It was here at this HBCU that he met the love of his life, Delores Barlow, when she arrived at Stillman during her junior year.

After graduation in 1968 with a B.S. in Math, Herman joined the U.S. Air Force where he received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant and was stationed at Ann Arbor, MI. On July 3, 1969, Herman married Delores and began their lifelong journey of 54 years together traveling the country through many moves and career promotions. During his earlier career years, Herman served as a navigator on flight missions, then later as a meteorologist as he rose through the ranks.  During his travels around the country and the world were born two marvelous sons, Herman Bernard and Allan Brian, to share their love more fully.

Never forgetting his humble beginning, Herman often came home to Eutaw, Alabama to visit his father, Esmer and mother,  Geneva as often as possible. He also assisted, counseled, and supported his younger siblings.

After 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, and a position with the Air Force Military Personnel Center, Herman chose to retire instead of pursuing his career.  Moving to Lewisville, TX, he accepted a position as the head of the Air Force Junior ROTC unit at Marcus High School in Flower Mound. Both Herman and Delores inspired new generations while both putting down new roots, supporting his family, and serving his community as a teacher in Jr. ROTC. Leading the JROTC unit was just what Herman needed to keep active, and he led the unit on field trips constantly learning and sharing in his love of leading youths.

Eventually, both Herman and Delores retired to spend more time caring for their youngest son, Allan.  They continued to participate in community service and selling Delores' invention, the Desk-A-Doo organizer.

Though he loved his family greatly, he loved The Lord Jesus Christ best.

A Time to Die:  On Sunday afternoon,  May 25, 2025.  Herman took his final breath here on earth and found a "peace beyond all understanding".   He surrendered all at his home in  Double Oak, Texas  in full triumph of faith.

Herman was preceded in death by his wife, Delores Walker, parents, Esmer  and Geneva Walker; four brothers:  Freeman Collins, Howard Collins, Esmer Walker, and Lindberg Walker, and one sister: Mildred Collins,

A Time to Mourn:  Herman leaves to cherish his memories two  loving and devoted sons:   Herman Bernard and Allen Brian (Dallas, Texas), Two sisters,  Bobbie Walker Allan, Birmingham, AL; Ruthie Walker Colmore, Eutaw, AL; Four brothers: Nathaniel (Debra) Walker Tewkesbury, MA, Larry Walker Lithonia, GA, Elvis (Brenda ) Walker Northport, AL, Arnold (Belinda) Walker Birmingham, AL, One brother-in-law: Frank (Michelle) Barlow Jr., Mobile, AL, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
