George Michael "Mike" King

November 14, 1944 – January 06, 2024

Mike was born on 111444 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Betty Ann (Fenstermacher) and George Washington King Jr., and passed on 010624 (not nearly as fun of a number) at his home in Carrollton, Texas.

He is survived by his Wife of 55 years, Mary Ann (Stewart) King, Daughter Julie Ann (King) & Son-in-law Aref Ali, Son Eric Michael King & Daughter-in-law Kate S King, Grand pup Pitchie Ali, Grand Cats WensleyDale, Piper & Watson King, Sister Carol Ann & Brother-in-law Andy Magid, Brother William Stephen "Steve" & Sister-in-law Alice King, Sisters-in-law: Kay Buchanan, Letha Stewart, & Barbara Atteberry, Brothers-in-law: David, Paul & Dennie Stewart, and a host of Nieces and Nephews. He was predeceased by his Parents, Betty & George, his Parents-in-law Dean & Naomi Stewart, Nephews David & Patrick Stewart, and Christopher Buchanan, Niece Beth Atteberry, and Sister-in-law Suana Stewart.

He spent most of his young life moving from one small town in Oklahoma to another, his family settled in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Mike attended Chickasha High School (Home of the Chickasha Fighting Chicks) where he ran track, played in the marching band, and also played football and basketball. He was a proud member of the class of 1963.  He started off his college career at the University of Oklahoma (Boomer) and finished his bachelor's at the University of SW Oklahoma in 1967. He started his professional career as a Math teacher in Norman, Oklahoma, where he met Mary while he was teaching. They had a whirlwind romance and married on November 9, 1968. Mike was also drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war. This turned out to be a pivotal time as it sent him on his new career path in Computers. After serving time in Vietnam and stateside, he reentered the teaching world for a short time in Tulsa. In 1971 he and Mary had their daughter Julie and in 1975 their son Eric came along.  He was a loving and doting Dad! (In this writer's opinion, the ABSOLUTE BEST Dad!) It was during this time he started his career in the IT world in earnest. In his early 40's he took up playing soccer and retired from playing at 75. He was generally the goalie and suffered for his sport with a couple of broken noses (they mistook his white hair for the ball) and a broken arm, but he still loved playing. He played in several over-60, and over-70 tournaments around the country and was very sad to retire. He missed the beer (ha-ha). He also never turned down a plate of spaghetti or a bowl of ice cream!  Once he retired from the IT world, he became Mary's chief assistant and bottle washer in her cake business; he loved (maybe too a strong of a word) running errands. He spent lots of time tending to and helping out and visiting with his friend Bruce. He also enjoyed visiting Eric & Kate in Seattle and spending time with Julie & Aref, going to baseball games, watching Manchester United, the Sooners and the Cowboys (win or lose), playing bingo and going to Vegas.

In June of 2023, he was diagnosed with brain cancer (glioblastoma.) He went through his surgery, treatments, rehab and then home with great aplomb. The doctors were amazed that he didn't have headaches at all. Unfortunately, just after Thanksgiving they discovered a new tumor, and it was inoperable. He spent his remaining time visiting with his friends and family and was happy to see all who came. He received many cards and letters during his illness and loved every single one of them.  During his life he made so, so, so many friends. To have met him was to love him. He was a kind and generous man to all he encountered. His life philosophy was to always be kind to people even when they aren't kind to you.  He will be truly missed, but forever in our hearts.
