In Loving Memory of Elaine Margaret Mitchell

March 4, 1948 – July 28, 2026

With love and gratitude, we announce the passing of Elaine Margaret Mitchell on July 28, 2026, at the age of 78.

Born in Dubuque, Iowa, Elaine lived a life rooted in love, faith, sacrifice, kindness, and an unwavering devotion to her family. After moving to Texas in 1979, she spent much of her career in banking and accounting before later joining the Lewisville Independent School District's food service team.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Elaine found joy in dancing, cooking, baking, crocheting, watching movies, celebrating family traditions, and spending time with those she loved. She was happiest when gathered around the dinner table with her family, attending Sunday Mass, celebrating holidays, or simply enjoying life's everyday moments. Her grandchildren were among her greatest blessings, and she delighted in attending their activities, watching them grow, and teaching them through her gentle wisdom, strong Catholic faith, and unconditional love.

Whether feeding the homeless in downtown Dallas, providing Christmas gifts to nursing home residents, or preparing and serving lunches to schoolchildren, Elaine and her husband, Boyd, dedicated countless hours to serving others and sharing the love of Jesus Christ with everyone they met.

Elaine is survived by her loving husband of 22 years, Boyd Monaghen; her children, Rob Mitchell and his wife, Melia, and Jennifer DeVries and her husband, Steve; her cherished grandchildren, MacKenzie, Shelby and her husband, Alonzo, Dylan, Aubrey, and Cole; her beloved great-grandchildren, Keira, Gianna, and Fulton; and her siblings: MaryAnn Whelan and her husband, Pete; Merle Schmitt and his wife, Sherry; Ralph Schmitt and his wife, Lynn; Donna Toth and her husband, Frank; Jane Paisley and her husband, Ron; and Judy Timmerman and her husband, Terry.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Frances Schmitt, her sister, Karen Atkins and brother-in-law, Jeff Atkins, and nephew, Joe Whelan.

With Boyd faithfully by her side, Elaine battled advanced cancer for many years with extraordinary bravery, resilience, determination, and unwavering faith. Even as treatment took a tremendous toll on her body and mobility, she continued to offer her suffering to God for the intentions of others. She remained a quiet example of selflessness, hope, and trust in God's plan.

Our family is deeply grateful to the doctors, nurses, caregivers, friends, and all those who prayed for Elaine's strength and healing throughout her journey. While our hearts grieve and we miss her deeply, we rejoice in the promise that she is now at eternal peace in the presence of Jesus Christ. We find comfort in the countless memories we shared, the example of a life devoted to serving others, and the enduring legacy of her love, which lives on through her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and all whose lives she touched.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Coppell, Texas. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville,Texas. A Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. during the visitation.
