A loving son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, Douglas Joseph McKie, known to most as D.J., passed away on February 13, 2025, in Lewisville, TX at the age of 63.

D.J. was born on November 25, 1961, in Huntington, New York, to Joseph Charles McKie and Janet Decker Williamson (formerly McKie). In 1971, he and his family moved to Highland Village, Texas, where he would live for the remainder of his life. He graduated from Lewisville High School in 1979. After high school, he studied telecommunications engineering, graduating from DeVry Institute of Technology in 1983. He was hired by DSC in the early 1990s, where he continued to work through many mergers and retired after over 30 years with the company.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter who loved spending time in the wilderness surrounded by friends and his beloved Golden Retrievers. In the fall, you would often find him in front of the TV, cheering for the Oklahoma State Cowboys and the Dallas Cowboys. The McKie family valued quality time together, enjoying activities such as boating on Lake Lewisville, taking road trips in their camper, and supporting the family's kart racing team. At home, D.J. and his family often shared laughs by telling stories, playing games, or having living room dance parties. Family was the most important thing to D.J., and he cherished nightly family dinners, where many friends and extended loved ones often shared a seat at the table. In fact, many of his children's friends thought of him as a second dad. In his younger years, D.J. and his close friends were always seeking new adventures, a bond that remained strong throughout his adult life.

Although he humorously referred to himself as an "a-hole," those who truly knew him would attest that this could not have been further from the truth. He was genuine, wearing his heart on his sleeve and caring deeply for others. His pride in his children's accomplishments was often evident, with tears of joy in his eyes as he celebrated their successes.

D.J. is survived by his daughter, Karly Conroy and her husband, Spencer Conroy, of Austin, TX; son, Mitchell McKie and his wife, Alexandra-Maria McKie, of Highland Village, TX; their mother, Tammy Arroyo of Canton, TX; grandson, Chance Conroy of Austin, TX; a nephew whom he loved as his own for many years, Tanner White of Sanger, TX; sister, Cheryl Davidow of Annapolis, MD; stepfather, Wayne Williamson and his wife, Nita Williamson, of McKinney, TX; stepsister, Patti Dathe of Round Rock, TX; stepbrother, Russell Williamson and his wife, Lori Williamson, of McKinney, TX; stepbrother, Kenny Williamson and his wife, Sarah Williamson, of Keller, TX; as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, J.C. McKie of Huntington, NY; mother, Janet Williamson of Highland Village, TX; sister, Wendy Krauss of Parker, CO; and brother, Scott McKie of Highland Village, TX. The family finds peace knowing he was greeted by many family members, friends, and pups he loved dearly in heaven.

There will be a celebration of life, Friday, February 21st, 2025 at JM Prosperity Farm, 6150 Allred Rd, Argyle, TX 76226. The celebration will begin at 3:33 PM. D.J. hated formal attire, so boots and jeans are encouraged. D.J.'s hat collection will be out for everyone to take a hat to wear to the celebration, but feel free to wear your own as well.
