David Wesley "Zeke" Roberts, 80, of Coppell, Texas, passed away on June 20, 2026.

Born January 5, 1946, in Effingham, Illinois, David was the only son of Carl "Zeke" Roberts and Evelyn (Sims) Roberts. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Suzanne Bland and Bette Mae Roberts, and his wife, Janice Roberts.

A proud graduate of Cumberland High School's Class of 1964, David attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale from 1966 to 1969. He went on to build a remarkable 42-year career with AT&T Long Lines, where he was highly respected for his ingenuity, dedication to his work, and gift for connecting with people. In 1992, he made Coppell, Texas his home, though Greenup, Illinois always remained his beloved hometown.

Dave married Rebecca "Becky" Reynolds of Centralia, Illinois in 1973, and together they welcomed their daughter, Bethany Suzanne, in 1984. In 1992, David married Janice Thompson of Toledo, Illinois. They shared 32 years together until her passing in 2024.

David was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Resilient, smart, and full of wisdom, he was often the person others turned to for advice.

He loved traveling, dogs, cigars, ice-cold beer, good music, Chick-fil-A chicken strips, sweet tea with extra ice, car shows, swimming, reading the newspaper, and shopping the aisles of Costco. He enjoyed life's pleasures and was always ready for a good adventure.

Above all else, Dave treasured time with his family. Nothing brought him more joy than being "Granddad" to his two grandsons, Hendrik and Zeke. He loved attending their activities, sharing stories, and creating memories they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.

David is survived by his loving daughter, Bethany Grannan and son-in-law Travis; his grandsons, Hendrik David Grannan and Zeke Maarten Grannan; and many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

They broke the mold with Dave Roberts. There will never be another quite like him.

All are invited to a celebration of life at Temple Baptist Church in Flower Mound, Texas, on Thursday, July 2, at 4:00 p.m. Additional services will be held in Greenup, Illinois, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Temple Baptist Church's youth ministry, where his grandsons are active members, or to your local animal shelter in honor of Dave's love of dogs.
