Conception "Pearl" Lehman, born on August 1st, 1939, in Wiergate, Tx to Gabino and Eufracia Moreno. Conception, Pearl, Mom, Grandma, Abuelita, Great Grandma, went to be with our Lord, Jesus Christ on April 1st at 3:36am while surrounded by her family. In the last few hours of her life, Conception prayed and sang to Carey Underwoods "How Great Thou Art" and shared stories of her family. Prayer and this song brought great comfort. Conception was preceded in death by her Mother and Father, brothers: Johnnie Moreno, Albert Moreno, and Gabino Moreno II, sisters: Mary Humble, Petra Villafano, Eloise Gutierrez, and Evon Vargas, son: Leon E. Lehman Jr., and daughter-in-law: Donna Lehman. Pearl's surviving brothers: Joe Moreno and wife Beth, George Moreno and wife Cindy, and Isabel, sisters: Alice Ditzler, Margaret Owen and husband Jerry, and Dolores Liscano. Children: Petra Redman and husband Reginald Redman, Cynthia Hettinger and husband Kevin Hettinger, and Anthony Lehman. As well as 8 grandchildren: Michael Brown Jr. and fiancé Samantha Jackson, Somer Redman, Mathew Hettinger and wife Brandy Hettinger, Shea Harrison and husband Cecil Harrison, Brandie Hettinger and fiancé Mike Arispe, Reginald Redman Jr. and fiancé Taylor Marcotte, Laura Alvis and husband Josh Alvis, and Miranda Hettinger, and 15 great-grandchildren: Hailey Brown, Savannah Hettinger, Stanley Hettinger, Kayden Redman, Tanner Harrison, Braiden Arispe, Jason Medina, Melanie Medina, Jude Redman, Bear Harrison, Kylee Medina, Matthew Castillo, Eden Redman, Lacey Brown and Eliana Alvis. Eliana born 16hrs and 50min after Abuelita's passing.

Conception was a resident of Port Acres and Port Neches and lived out her last months in Highland Village with Petra and Reggie.

Conception shared with us how she came about with the nickname Pearl. Conception was very light skinned. On one of the days that Grandma Moreno had Conception sunning in the front yard a passerby commented on how she looked like a Pearl. The name stuck. As a young teenager at Thomason Jefferson HS, Pearl decided she wanted to be a policewoman and went into the police station to ask for a job. The policemen on duty laughed and suggested she come back when she was a little older… and bigger. She continued her police work as a private eye, equipped with a step stool and binoculars. Coming from a large family, the brothers and sisters worked to help support the family. Pearls sisters worked in a dry clean and tailoring shop. Her sisters made hats. Watching the ladies cleaning sheets, she decided that she could do that also and asked the manager for a job. Working, she could now buy things herself. This is only one example of her work ethic and can-do attitude. Pearl also worked as a nurse's aide for the Hospital. She worked in the pediatric unit and was once chosen to fly to Galveston with a severely burned child. Her memories of her hospital days were fresh in her mind. Pearl retired from Beaumont ISD where she worked as an ala cart cook at South Park HS. She continued to work, sometimes several jobs at a time. She was proud of the fact that she had purchased her home in Port Neches and was able to live independently. She maintained the house and yard immaculately even past the time of her severe heart attacks.

Though Pearl's preference was to spend time with family and friends and work with her hands, she also enjoyed cooking for her family and watching western movies and TV shows like Little House on the Prairie, riding in a car around town, scenic areas, or the beach. Abuelita would make "monster" cookies for her grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she often referred to as rascals. She enjoyed watching the videos and pictures Michael would send of Lacey and playing dodge ball with Eden, or "Little Red" as she called her. Just seeing or talking with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren brought joy to her heart and a smile on her face. Pearl said that Little House on the Prairie reminded her of her childhood and that the stories were real as the things that happened on the show truly happened in life. The Andy Griffith show and John Wayne movies were also some of her favorites. Pearl and Anthony would stay up late watching these movies and shows. Pearl also loved the Cowboys and rarely missed watching the Astros play. She loved sports so much that she even coached Cynthia's softball team.

Family oriented, hardworking, resilient, strong-willed, a fighter, and a heart full of love are ways to describe Conception "Pearl" Lehman.
