Charles Tillman Townsend, 80, of Lewisville, Texas, passed away November 12, 2024, while receiving treatment in Garland, Texas, for Lewy Body Dementia.

Charles was the youngest of seven born on October 21, 1944, in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, to Velma Grace (Long) and James Presley Townsend. He served his country on the USS Bugara submarine during the Vietnam War having enlisted in the US Navy when he was 17 years old.  He was fond of telling how he proudly served his country for 6 years, 2 months and 21 days.  Upon being honorably discharged from the Navy he moved to Austin, Texas, and earned his BBA in Accounting in 1972 from The University of Texas at Austin.  In 1978 he earned his MBA from the University of North Texas and continued to excel in business in the DFW area for many years.

He was an amazing father and devoted grandfather who loved to get together with family to play dominoes as often as possible; often weekly winning at least one cutthroat game of Moon.  An avid animal lover, he could often be spotted around Lewisville walking his dog, Bailey.

Charles is preceded in his death by both of his parents, his infant son Charles Adrian Townsend (1980) and his sisters Rebecca "Becky" Lucille (Townsend) McCracken of Etowah, Oklahoma, Rachel Susan (Townsend) Rogers of Waco, Texas and Margaret Louise (Townsend) Beal of Montevallo, Alabama.

He is survived by his wife, Joy Ellen (Cooper) Townsend of Lewisville, Texas; son James Presley Townsend, II of Washington DC; daughter Deanna (Townsend) Evans and husband Kirk of Carrollton, Texas; grandson Carson Allen Evans of Boston, Massachusetts; and granddaughter Avery Carlisle Evans of Memphis, Tennessee.

Charlie is also survived by three of his six siblings, James Walter Townsend of Marshall, Texas;  Virgil Presley Townsend and wife Una Belle of Yukon, Oklahoma; and Betty Ann Davis of Chickasha, Oklahoma.  He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
