Charles "Chuck" Higgins, age 95, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2026 in Lewisville, TX.

Chuck was born in Alta, Iowa on March 15, 1931 and his family moved to Storm Lake, Iowa in 1936. He graduated from Storm Lake High School in 1949, where he was student body president his senior year. He also was on the track, basketball, football and baseball teams. He attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion where he received a business degree in 1953. While at the University of South Dakota he was a member of Delta Tau Delta Social Fraternity and served as President of the fraternity his senior year. After graduation, he entered the US Army during the Korean War, serving 2 years primarily at White Sands Proving Grounds in Las Cruces, New Mexico. During his tour of duty he married Jean Marie Pletschette of Cherokee, Iowa. They resided in Las Cruces until 1955 when he was discharged from the service. At that time they returned to the University of South Dakota where he continued his education, receiving his law degree (Doctor of Jurisprudence) in 1957. After graduation, Chuck and Jean moved to El Paso, Texas where he joined El Paso Natural Gas Company as an Oil and Gas Landman. Chuck worked as a Landman in many management positions, retiring in 1992. During his 35-year career, he worked for a number of companies including El Paso Natural Gas Company, Anadarko Petroleum Company, The Stone Petroleum Company, and Mitchell Energy Corporation. During his career, Jean and Chuck moved numerous times to such places as El Paso, Texas; Farmington, New Mexico; Marietta, Ohio; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Denton and Forth Worth, Texas. After retirement, Chuck and Jean traveled extensively, while residing in Lewisville, Texas. Chuck also enjoyed golf and attending sporting events of all kinds.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents Marjorie, who passed away in 1980, and Vigorous V. Higgins who passed away in 2007 at the age of 104. He was also predeceased by his son Robert who passed away in Abilene, Texas in 2003.

Chuck is survived by his wife Jean Higgins; son Jim Higgins and wife Kelly of Houston, Texas; daughter Janet Kurth and her husband Barry of Frisco, Texas; and daughter Julie Godbersen and her husband Grant of Ida Grove, Iowa. He is also survived by grandchildren Allyson Higgins Athey, Matthew Higgins, Andrew and Hannah Kurth, and Jennifer and Jackson Godbersen, and great-grandchildren Harrison, Everly, and Sadie Athey. The great love of his life was his wife Jean, to whom he was married for 71 years, and his children and their families, who meant so much to him and made him feel so proud and happy.

A private family service will be held at Saint Ann's Catholic Church in Coppell, Texas on May 8, 2026.
