Charles (Chuck) Henry Garner (1937-2026)

Chuck Garner, 88, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away on May 18, 2026 in the comfort of his home in Double Oak, Texas. Chuck's life was a testament to love and his dedication to his family.

Chuck was born June 10, 1937, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Elsie Garner and Charles Edward Garner. He had a wonderful childhood living in Indianapolis, Paris, Texas, and Irving, Texas. He was a good student and graduated from Irving High School in 1955.  He enlisted in the Air Force in 1956 and served his country proudly learning to be an electronics technician.  He was stationed at a radar site in Kansas which is where he met the love of his life - Virginia Masterson. They were married July 9, 1958.    When his time in the Air Force was completed, they moved back to Texas where he began a 17-year career at Collin's Radio followed by 25 years at GTE / Verizon.   He and Virginia lived all 68 years of their marriage in Texas - Irving, San Angelo, College Station, and Double Oak.  He retired in 1998 and they enjoyed retirement traveling with close friends and family (especially cruising).  His favorite trips include Alaska, Washington DC, The Panama Canal and Colorado.   When they were home, he loved working in his woodworking shop, creating projects for his friends and family.  He was an avid reader all his life.  When things got quiet you could always find him with a book in his hand deep in a good story.  His favorite genres were westerns, science fiction, and romance novels.  In his later years, he also found great enjoyment in "watching his shows" - old movies and western shows were his favorites. His family was always very important to him, and he enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Chuck is preceded in death by his parents Elsie and Charles Garner and his brother David Garner.  He is survived by his wife, Virginia Garner of Double Oak, Texas,  daughter Melody Schiller (Richard) of Colleyville, Texas, Grandsons - Charlie Schiller (Yasseen) of Trophy Club, Texas and Greg Schiller (Courtney) of Northlake, Texas,  Great grandchildren - Ronan Schiller, Teagan Schiller, Camden Schiller, Lillian Schiller  Sisters - Helen Tarvin (Elliott) of Euless, Texas, Trish Houchin (Bobby) of White Settlement, Texas, Brother Carl Garner ( Nancy) of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, Brother -in-law Donald Graves (Chris) of Payola, Kansas, Sister-in-law Darlene Hoschouer (Dan) of De Soto, Kansas  and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and cousins.

Visitation and grave side services for Chuck will be held on May 22, 2026.   Visitation will be at Mulkey-Mason funeral home located at 740 Edmonds Ln. Lewisville from 10 - 11:30 am.  Graveside service will follow at noon at Flower Mound Cemetery located at 1501 Flower Mound Road.  John Economidis will be leading the service.
