Ada "Betty" Callender Platfoot, 95, of Lewisville, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2026, after a long life centered on family, faith, creativity, and community.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, on February 13, 1931 to The Reverend Paul A. Callender and Ada E. Callender, Betty graduated from Western Maryland College in 1952. She was the proud mother of four daughters, grandmother of ten, and great-grandmother of five.

Betty was kind, gentle, caring, and deeply devoted to her faith. She took great pride in raising her daughters and watching her family grow.  She was an active member of Stonebriar Community Church, where she volunteered in children's ministries and was a proud member of the WOW (Women of Worth) Ministry.  She found great joy in singing her favorite hymns.

Betty loved knitting, crocheting, hiking, and traveling. She visited national parks throughout the country, with Yosemite holding a special place in her heart, and her travels took her to Israel, Austria, and Alaska. She admired figure skater Sonja Henie and actor Gregory Peck, enjoyed Doc Martin and a good knock-knock joke, and had a particular fondness for hot fudge sundaes.

Betty was also a formidable cribbage player and achieved a legendary Bookworm high score that her family remembers reaching well into the billions. Her family will remember her for her gentle nature, kindness, and hand-crafted accessories.

Betty is survived by her four daughters, Susan Grandas (Joe), Anne Blazak (Chris), Rebecca Findley (Gregg), and Nancy Renfrew (Chris); ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Paul A. Callender, Jr.

A private burial will be held, with a memorial service planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Betty's memory to the National Kidney Foundation.
